Oral health professionals across Southport, CO are being asked to consider the impact of a looming shortage of oral health kits, and how they can support patients to ensure their oral health is not compromised.

The Southport Health Department (SHD) is asking stakeholders to help provide kits in a bid to prevent dental health problems.

“We have had a number of patients come to us asking if they can purchase oral health kit for themselves or for a friend or family member,” SHD Health Director Mark Boughton said.

“It’s about getting people to buy it for themselves and make sure they’re able to afford it.

We’re hoping to provide that kit to everyone at some stage in the coming weeks.”

The kit is designed to help prevent the spread of infections such as hepatitis A and B, as well as gum disease.

“I think a lot of people are just concerned that we’re going to be short of oral healthcare kits, especially if we’re in an area where there’s no other option,” Dr Boughson said.

“There are many different things we could be doing that could be more effective at preventing oral health problems in Southport and hopefully, with the availability of the kits, it’s not that big of a deal.”

Dr Boughston said that the kits would also help provide dental care for dental patients in need, but that patients should have their own kit if they’re worried about getting dental health treatment.

“If you are in a situation where you have a situation of gum disease, you would be in great need of dental care,” he said.

“It is important that we have dental healthcare, so we can make sure that people get the care they need.”

The kits can be purchased online from the SHD’s Health Information Services department.

The kits cost $25.
