Oral health scholarship applicants can get the most out of their scholarship money by applying online or by calling their dental office to get their application accepted, a new study has found.
Researchers at the University of Western Australia found that students with more advanced oral health needs were more likely to get scholarships.
“Our findings show that the most advanced dental need is for dental work to be performed by a dentist who has completed a full oral health curriculum, has received a dental fellowship or has completed an oral health program,” Dr Mark Williams, who led the study said.
“This means that students should be aware that they can apply online for dental scholarships, or they can visit the dental office, where they can get their scholarship application accepted.”
A dentist has to have an oral history and a thorough dental exam before the dental program is completed.
In some cases, applicants can also apply for scholarships by phone.
The study found that those who had a more advanced dental plan were also more likely than those who did not to receive dental scholarships.
Students with oral health problems were also less likely to receive scholarships, with more than half of those with oral problems receiving dental scholarships and fewer than 20 per cent receiving dental grants.
